Radon Testing

Radon is an invisible, odorless radioactive gas and the #2 cause of lung cancer in the United States. We perform EPA-recommended testing so your family knows what they’re breathing.

What to Expect

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, behind only smoking. The EPA and the Surgeon General recommend testing every home below the third floor. Our certified radon testing uses continuous electronic monitors placed in the lowest livable level of the home for a 48-hour window, providing accurate, reliable readings. If elevated radon is detected, we connect you with trusted mitigation professionals across North Carolina.

What You're Risking If You Skip This

You cannot see, smell, or taste radon — and parts of North Carolina (including large sections of the Piedmont and Triangle) sit on bedrock with elevated radon levels. Long-term exposure above 4 pCi/L roughly matches the lung cancer risk of smoking half a pack a day. Skipping this test does not mean your home is safe; it means you don’t know.

Why Our Radon Testing Is More Thorough

We use continuous electronic monitors — not cheap charcoal kits — so you get a reading every hour for 48 hours and can see exactly how radon levels moved through the day. No guessing, no mail-in lab delays, no temperature/humidity fudging. You get defensible numbers and a clear next step.

This is the second house we've used Hometek for and the only inspectors we'd use in the future. Dean is super thorough and honest to work with and takes the time to answer all of your questions. I would highly recommend them.
